Kimmi - New Life to Broken Plates
An archaeological conservator by training I use my skills to recycle shards from vintage broken cups and plates by grinding them into shape, adding Sterling Silver fittings and turning them into jewellery.
The patterns range from 19th century floral and willow patterns to 1960s kitsch and abstract. I source the broken cups and plates from tea-rooms, local charity shops and donations by customers. I also find shards from the fields surrounding Abergavenny. I only use plates which are damaged, chipped or cracked. I love the idea of reusing the shards and saving broken plates from the bin!

They tell us we no longer make cakes like we used to. That our lives are too hectic for us to take the time to mix and bake. Clams still make the cakes the traditional way. Theres the weighing, sifting and beating, the heavenly smell of eggs, butter and sugar cooking and finally the warm glow of contentment when the cakes sit on the wire racks waiting to be dressed...just asking to be eaten.

Sioni Rhys Handweavers
Colour, pattern and texture are firm features of Sioni Rhys Handweavers’ textiles.
Their traditional Carthenni (throws) are deeply rooted in the culture of Welsh textile techniques but always in the modern idiom. They adapt design aspects used by the old mills to produce beautiful Carthenni which have become heirlooms treasured by a new generation. Their range of throws inspired by the former Melin Gwenffrwd on the Llanofer Estate in Monmouthshire is an illustration of economy and design that is the hallmark of Welsh textiles.
