Berry Bach

After many years of working in London teaching hospitals Gill and Andy decided that they needed a complete change of lifestyle and decided to buy a small farm in Wales. Having no farming experience they were looking for animals that would be easy to manage and would give them the opportunity to set up a small concern using traditional crafts. Alpacas seemed to be the answer. Initially they bought six animals, but now have nineteen, plus seven geriatric chickens and five bee hives!

On their smallholding in Llanvihangel Crucorney, Gill and Andy now happily breed alpacas and produce alpaca clothing. They also have a small workroom where you can see the processes of turning fleece into yarn, as well as the finished garments. The garments are all hand-knitted from 100% natural alpaca (no dyes used), with most children’s and babies’ clothes also being hand-spun.

They also produce honey and other bee products which together with the garments can be purchased from the farm. Visitors are welcome but should ring in advance to check someone is around. You can walk around the smallholding and meet the alpacas, chickens and bees.
