I am based in Monmouth and have an engineering background. I was inspired to take up woodturning by a late close friend who was a master carpenter and woodturner.
Must of my work is with green wood and I especially like to work with Spalted woods .
(Spalting is the staining / colour changing of the wood during the process of fungus breaking the wood down).
Most of the wood I use in my work is native Welsh wood and a lot comes from the Wye Valley.
I turn a variety of items including bowls, vessels, platters and pens. The turning process requires great care and attention and then the items are finished to a high standard using a variety of finishes. Most of my pieces are signed on the base.
Wood is a naturally beautiful material which, when turned, I believe becomes a tactile piece of art.
