Kimmi - New Life to Broken Plates

An archaeological conservator by training I use my skills to recycle shards from vintage broken cups and plates by grinding them into shape, adding Sterling Silver fittings and turning them into jewellery.

The patterns range from 19th century floral and willow patterns to 1960s kitsch and abstract. I source the broken cups and plates from tea-rooms, local charity shops and donations by customers. I also find shards from the fields surrounding Abergavenny. I only use plates which are damaged, chipped or cracked. I love the idea of reusing the shards and saving broken plates from the bin!

The jewellery has proven very popular as each item have a unique provenance that offers customers reminders of favourite or familiar objects from their past.
