ABBEY JEWELLERY

I make bangles, rings, earrings, pendants, chains, chokers, necklaces, pins etc., and specialise in wedding jewellery, including tiaras.

Abbey Jewellery was first established in 1979 at the Log Cabin Crafts Centre, Llandogo. I then moved to the Model Farm Folk Museum and Craft Centre, where I worked for 10 years. For over 20 years I have been based at the Wye Valley Crafts Association's co-operative shop at Abbey Mill, Tintern. (www.wyevalleycrafts.co.uk).
I learned the craft of Solderless Wirework from a relative in Toronto. He was marketing his jewellery as a traditional British craft. However, on returning home, I discovered it had completely died out in Britain.

I still use the same basic techniques of Solderless Wirework, but I have developed complementary skills, e.g. Viking Knit, another wireworking technique. My work has evolved and I now have my own distinct style.
As well as the traditional Rolled Gold wire, I use Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver (purer than Sterling), Rolled Silver and various base metals, such as bronze, brass, enamelled copper and aluminium. I combine these metals with semi precious stones, crystals, fossils and other natural materials, allowing the properties of the stones to guide me in creating the finished piece of jewellery.

I make bangles, rings, earrings, pendants, chains, chokers, necklaces, pins etc., and specialise in wedding jewellery, including tiaras.
I especially enjoy receiving commissions for unique and personal pieces of jewellery.
As well as at the WVCA shop in Tintern, my work is available locally in Chepstow Creates and at the Peep Show Gallery in Hart's Barn, near Mitcheldean. I attend a wide variety of events throughout Wales, from the Royal Welsh Show to Tintern village fete. The WVCA holds several events every year away from Tintern, such as at Beechenhurst in the Forest of Dean. I may also be seen at MiM events, e.g.Hilston Park.

I have recently begun to teach jewellery making. The WVCA holds craft days in Tintern village hall several times a year where several crafts can be tried. I also teach at adult education days at Tintern Abbey. The next one is in July 2013.I have even taught at a hen party!
