Cathryn graduated in 3D Design Ceramics in 1987 and has been creating her own work ever since. She taught on the BTec Ceramics course at the Royal Forest of Dean College for many years and has been running a pottery club in Chepstow since 1990!
She works with adults with differing abilities in Monmouth enabling them to discover the therapeutic benefits of arts, crafts & clay.
In 2012 she was commissioned to make plaques for Wikipedia in Monmouth and Johannesburg and has recently completed relief tiles for the Monmouth Poppy Trail to commemorate the Monmouth Regiment.
Her current work is influenced by her love of sailing around the Welsh coast and along the Severn estuary and the amazing effect water has on the coastal landscape. She is inspired by how the weather decays metal and wood, seeing the beauty in rust and peeling paint.
Working with porcelain, her textured surfaces using resist & overlaying glaze reveal these influences in her work, exploring the way light plays through the delicate walls of her quayside cottage lights, bowls and mugs.
She enjoys working to commission and creating bespoke pieces for various occasions such as weddings, christenings and birthdays.
