Following on from the successful Wild Boar 2014, the challenge continues in the stunning surrounds of the Sirhowy Valley with its challenging terrain and commanding views.
The Caerphilly Challenge Series has a walk to suit all abilities (starting and finishing at Cwmcarn High School):

A Monster of a route (with more combined height gained then going up Snowdon)
the self led 21 mile route will take you through spectacular valleys woodland, farmland, and across open moorland. Weather permitting, you will be treated to some fantastic views across the county borough towards the Brecon Beacons, over Cardiff Bay, the Bristol Channel, Somerset and North Devon, before trekking up and over the spectacular iron age hillfort of Twmbarlwm and 3 of the highest points in the county, (Twmbarlwm (419m), Mynydd Machen (362m) and Mynydd Islwyn (312m)).
The 15 mile route Twmbarlwm Trek (Self led challenge)...
For the most experienced walker, the self led 15 mile route will take you through spectacular valleys woodland, farmland, and across open moorland. Weather permitting, you will be treated to some fantastic views across the county borough towards the Brecon Beacons, over Cardiff Bay, the Bristol Channel, Somerset and North Devon, whilst you trek up and over 2 of the highest points in the county (Mynydd Machen (362m) and Mynydd Islwyn (312m)). From which you will have fantastic views of the spectacular iron age hillfort of Twmbarlwm.
NEW THIS YEAR: We now have a limited number of places available for a led walk at this distance i.e. ideal for people who are well able for the distance, but cannot read a map!

If you arent too hot with map reading and want to challenge yourself without getting lost, then the ramblers Cymru walk will be just the one for you. Enjoy the wonderful scenery of the area whilst being accompanied by an experienced Ramblers Cymru walk leader.
The 1 to 5 mile Lets walk Challenge (Led Walk)...
If you dont fancy so many hills, then the Monmouthsire Brecon Canal offers a range of shorter flatter led walks from 1 to 5 miles. There is no charge for the Lets Walk Cymru challenge. No pre entry is required, just turn up on the 9th of May at 10.30, fill in the registration form and health questionnaire ad be ready to walk by 11am.
