Velvet Coalmine opens with a tribute to Blackwood's finest band, Manic Street Preachers. BAFTA-winning Director Kieran Evans will be holding a Q & A with Manics biographer and acclaimed music writer Simon Price followed by a screening of his documentary 'Culture, Alienation, Boredom and Despair'.
The event kicks off three days of music and literature in the town which includes Patrick Jones, Rachel Trezise, Rhian Edwards and Clare Potter amongst the literary cast and 30+ bands across multiple venues in the town.
The festival close with a 'Concert for Coal' at Blackwood Miners' Institute with all funds raised supporting the creation of a Creative Coal-writing day and to support the preservation of the National Mining Memorial in Senghenydd.
