A Medieval Murder Mystery

Locals and visitors to Caerphilly are invited to take part in Cadw’s spooky medieval midsummer murder mystery evening at Caerphilly Castle next Thursday 23 August from 7pm-9.30pm.

Guests will be joining Home Office pathologist and medieval crime novelist Bernard Knight in solving a fourteenth-century murder at the castle. The event will be a story of intrigue, jealousy, plotting and murder. It will offer a murder mystery evening with a twist and several red herrings along the way.

On ‘finding the dead body’, Bernard Knight will talk participants through the forensics before they set off on a journey around the castle to solve the mystery of the murder. The group will then gather in Caerphilly Castle’s Great Hall for a ‘taste of the medieval’ drinks and canapés.

Caerphilly Castle, the largest castle in Wales, is looked after by Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service working for an accessible and well-protected historic environment. Set in the heart of Caerphilly it’s like a slumbering giant, surrounded by a series of moats and watery islands.

Bernard Knight said: ‘This will be no ordinary dinner party murder mystery event. This magnificent historical monument will make for the perfect location for a murder mystery evening. Guests should expect to be enthralled and entertained as the evening’s events unfold.’

Adrienne Wood, Cadw’s Lifelong Learning Manager said: 'Guests will have an engaging experience, and learn a little about life in medieval times whilst having fun.'

There will be a further Cadw murder mystery event taking place at Caerphilly Castle on Thursday 20 September. Tickets are £15 each and can be purchased at Caerphilly Castle visitor centre or by calling 029 2088 3143.
