The Teifi Valley has been the centre of the Welsh woollen trade since the nineteenth century, and our mill at Dre-fach Felindre on Teifiside was chosen by the National Museum of Wales to house its Museum of the Welsh Woollen Industry, where Melin Teifi still produces the finest traditional Welsh flannel using top-quality materials and local craftsmanship.
Melin Teifi Fashions consist of classic styles developed from familiar garments traditionally worn by Welsh workmen.
The items of menswear are fashion favourites suitable for unisex leisure wear.
All the shirts and smocks can be made in any pattern in our range of traditional Welsh flannel.
Standard sizes of each garment are shown on our leaflets. Other sizes can be made to order, allow three to four weeks for delivery
Raymond Jones and wife Diane, the owners of Melin Teifi, served their apprenticeship in Cambrian Mills (Now the Museum of the Welsh Woollen Industry) and worked here for a period of 18 years. But events too a dramatic turn in 1982 following the closure of Cambrian Mills Felindre Ltd. Rather than seek employment in another industry, Raymond and Diane Jones decided to establish Melin Teifi, A woollen mill employing three people, in a workshop on the small industrial estate in Henllan, situated on the north bank of the Teifi about a mile from the museum.
Melin Teifi took up accommodation in the museum in 1984 and the Mill, although an independent commercial venture, is an integral part of the museum's interpretive exhibition, Melin Teifi concentrates upon the production of flannel, tweed, blanket, quilts, shawls, also commissions, Welsh costumes, flannel shirts, smocks etc.
