Remembering 'People of the Black Mountain'

Come to Abergavenny for a one day workshop on Raymond Williams' 'People of the Black Mountain' book. This was the last novel by the distinguished intellectual, critic and son of Abergavenny.

Raymond Williams was one of the most original and prolific cultural writers and thinkers in English in the 20th century, opening up new areas of enquiry in literary and cultural studies, communications and social and political theory. His cultural work was rooted in his concept of a long revolution - the democratic transformation of society in order that inequality and oppression would cease to exist.

His magnum opus, People of the Black Mountains, is a long spanning epic endeavour covering thousands of years of Welsh history, from early hunter-gatherers to the middle ages.

Our day of lectures and discussion groups will examine the author and his work through many different perspectives.
