Poetry on the Border

Poetry on the Border!

Saturday night come to the Drill Hall in Chepstow for an evening of passionate witness, generosity and tenderness as we welcome two of poetry’s great voices.

ELAINE FEINSTEIN and MIKE JENKINS

Elaine Feinstein is a brilliant poet, translator and woman of letters. Her list of friends reads like a history of 20th Century poetry: Hughes, Holub,

Brodsky, Yevtushenko, Ginsberg and Olson, Amichai, Abse and Plath! Her poetry is tough, taut and tender, shot through with the terrors of her time, yet through it all she retains a generosity and a sense of humour that is both heart-warming and inspiring.

Mike Jenkins is a powerful voice for the young, the disenchanted and the dispossessed. In an age of political apathy his raucous, sardonic and often tender work kept a very particular flame alight by showing us the human cost of recession, cuts and corporate rapacity.

Mike is a powerful presence ‘in the room’. As a past winner of the John Tripp award for spoken poetry, he brings an urgency and immediacy to his readings that can set the room alight.
