An exhibition asking how museums collect modern-day items using sporting objects collected over the last 60 years in Welsh collections. From the 1958 Empire & Commonwealth Games in Cardiff to the 2010 Ryder Cup in Newport, this exhibition covers a range of great sporting moments in Wales.

A Decade of Discovery: The Newport Ship
17th September 2012 - 12th October 2012
On the 10th Anniversary of the discovery of the Newport Medieval Ship exhibition tells the tale of the excavation and conservation of this remarkable vessel.

Georgetown
1st November 2012 to 30th November 2012
An exhibition that uses the photo's of Tony Hyde and historical research to tell the story of Georgetown from its construction, to destruction, to reconstruction.

Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery is home to a fantastic collection of artefacts spanning 2000 years of Merthyr's history and its Free to visit.

Current Exhibition

The Pithead Baths building houses four exhibition spaces and uses objects and images to tell the story of coal mining in Wales.

Themes include children in the mines, health, home life and the mining communities. See how the life and work of a Miner has changed from 1850 to 2000.

Learn about the Geology and Uses of Coal, Mining Disasters and Rescue, discover the role and impact of Trade Unions and Nationalisation , and get a closer look at some mining memorabilia.
