Just so Scrumptious award winner!
On the 4th April 2009 a small delicatessen opened on Kings Road, Llandovery, just over 18 months later and Liz McGill, the founder of Just so Scrumptious is sitting amongst the elite of Welsh food and drink producers collecting Bronze at the Wales True Taste Awards. Quite an achievement!
Liz first started selling her creamy fudge, crispy biscuits and naughty but ever so nice cakes at the Farmers Markets. This was followed by having a stall at fares and local events. There was never much produce left over after these occasions, so when the opportunity arose to own a small premises Liz grabbed it!
Since those early days, which in reality are only a few months ago, Just So Scrumptious has gained the reputation for selling high quality products. It was important to Liz that she supplied her customers with the best of locally sourced produce and much time and effort has been spent on building this reputation.
During the summer months tourist that pass through the small market town fill the little shop, eager to buy Lizs homemade fudge and cookies, and now with Christmas looming hampers will be flying out of the door! Her team of dedicated staff are a great support to Liz and their knowledge of the wide variety of products, help to make the whole shopping experience a real pleasure.
There are now a huge number of excellent delicatessens in Wales and the judges of the Wales True Taste Awards admitted that it was an incredibly difficult job choosing the best. According to one of the judges, the final decision is greatly influenced by the attitude of the owner. So Lizs dedication to supplying good quality food and her efforts to use local suppliers combined with her enthusiasm and commitment obviously shone through as well as her Just so Scrumptious goodies!
Over 350 organisations had entered his years competition which culminated at the Wales True Taste Awards ceremony at Haverfordwest, on Thursday 11th November. The glitzy evening was attended by over 500 award winners and their guests and was televised for S4C. The evenings compere was the BBCs news reader Jamie Owen, and a presentation was made by the Welsh Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones who acknowledged the hard work that goes into a recognised brand and congratulated all the winners for helping Wales to gain a deserved reputation for quality and taste.
After the ceremony Liz said she was delighted with the award, You have to aim for gold, but as a new business and to be in the company of such great names and brands at these prestigious awards, its a huge honour. Liz wished to thank her staff for their hard work and commitment, and her mother who has supported Liz throughout. The glass award will be displayed with pride at Just so Scrumptious.
