My work is inspired by what I see and experience around me, walking locally in Monmouthshire and the Black Mountains and what catches my imagination on my travels. I always travel with a camera and a sketch book and pen which I work on when I return home.
This collar and earrings were inspired by seeing early celtic jewelley which was decorated in very fine geometric patterns in gold work. Machine embroidery is combined with hand stitching and the addition of pierced coins.
Much of my work is drawing in thread, sometimes over a dyed or painted background, using machine stitching and then adding hand stitching, beading and found objects.
This piece was worked purely in thread and was inspired by a fountain seen in Spoleto, Italy and was attracted by the demeanor of the lion which was proud to provide water for the city.
This torso was created after a visit to Athens where the classical remains have enduring attraction. The fragmententary nature of the torso of this beautiful young youth transfers readily into thread.
This is framed for wall hanging and looks stunning in an old house or in a modern context.
Unusual gifts of personal identity made in the heart of the Welsh Border Country.
