I am privileged to live in a beautiful area of Snowdonia in the north west of Wales. There are few places where rocky peaks can be found overlooking long sandy beaches. In between are sparkling lakes and fresh white-water rivers run through native oak woodland. The land of Wales has such a great variety of landscapes for a small country. The plentiful supply of water from above ensures a lush and green surrounding, and a regular supply of sun (yes, really!) lights it to perfection. This is not always a chocolate box landscape the many ages of Welsh culture have melted into 'the land that God made'.
I have a passion for capturing this beautiful land on film (yes, I really do still use film!). Originally my interest in photography came out of a love of mountains - I wanted to capture some of my mountaineering experiences. Later I have come to appreciate the many facets of God's creation and have a desire to convey the splendour of these to others. Not everybody can be atop a mountain for sunrise or on a remote beach at dusk, but hopefully these pictures will enable you to share some of the experience with me. Hopefully others of you will have precious memories of your own re-ignited by the images.
Follow this website link to visit my online photographic gallery, celebrating the beauty of Snowdonia and of Wales. The site is designed for you to browse the 1000 or more images at your leisure. The pictures on the site are all produced in printed form some in my calendars, others on greetings cards, postcards, Christmas cards, or poster prints.
My cards and calendars are to be found in many shops in Wales, selling under my trading name of Origins, or Gwreiddiau in Welsh (which means Roots). If you would like to buy any of these images in their printed form directly from us, then follow this website link to my online shop.
Please feel free to contact me for anything - to give me helpful suggestions, correct me, because you dont feel comfortable purchasing online, or you wish to know your nearest stockist.
For those of you interested in the more technical side of things, I use a Canon EOS3 camera (about £500 new) along with 2 zoom lenses - a 24-85mm and a 75-300mm. This is a film camera in which I put my beloved Fuji Velvia 50asa slide film. This film was recently discontinued for a couple of years, so I bought a freezer full!
Using such a slow film, nearly all my pictures are taken using a sturdy Uniloc tripod.
I rarely use any coloured filters, but do make extensive use of a polarising filter, and varying strengths of graduated gray.
