Start right here in Betws with our first foray and experience the Artists Walk along the river Llugwy up towards Miners Bridge.
From the A5 north take a right over Pont-y-Pair Bridge and view the bubbllng cauldron of the Afon Llugwy as it descends over the rocks and under the bridge..
After you've crossed the bridge bear right and follow the boardwalk along the river and through the trees until it terminates in a wooded dell.
This is a very pretty short version of the walk suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Or from the end of the boardwalk you can pick up the track down to the river and walk along it through the meadows which lead to the Miners Bridge where you can cross over the river and return to the village alongside the A5
For a longer ramble carry up on past the Miners Bridge and follow the fence until the path joins the river again. The track climbs up through the forest to join a tarmac road.
Walk along the road for a few hundred yards and then take the first forest track on the left.
This leads down to the steep slopes of dramatic Swallow Falls, where the river Llugwy thunders down the gorge, especially spectacular after heavy rain.
Carry on along this path you will come to Snowdonia Society's Ty Hyll (Ugly House) where you can enjoy a panad, homemade Welsh cakes, the societies conservation work and learn all about their plight to save the honeybee in the Honey Room.
To return to the village
simply retrace your steps, or follow the A5 pavement back down towards Betws.
The round walk is about 6 miles in total and is steep and uneven in places.
If you fancy a longer stint then half a mile down the A5 towards Betws head off into Caen Y Coed woodlands, head up past the picnic site and take the path leading left into the woodland.
After about a mile you'll come accross a forestry fire track, turn left and follow it on down to Betws via the A5.
If you take the A5 route back into the village be warned there are lots of outdoor shops on the way back into the village - kit heaven!
three walks in one!
