The 2013 3rd Annual Llandovery Sheep Woolsack Race

RACE RULES

The race will commence at 12.00 Noon
All teams must report to Race Control (at the Market Square) by 11.45pm, no entries will be accepted on the day after this time.

ALL ENTRANTS RUN AT THEIR OWN RISK.
The race course is a simple loop around the Town Centre – it starts (and ends!) at the Post Office, proceeds around the town clock, turns right up High St (A40) and past the Castle Hotel then right into Market Sq. (at the West End Café) proceeding past the cenotaph and returning to the finish line at the Post Office.

Each heat will consist of no more than 4 teams.
Teams will be allocated to a heat by drawing lots and heats will be repeated until we have a maximum of 4 teams for the final.
If there are sufficient entries we will run separate competitions for under 15s, over 15 males and over 15 females.
If there are insufficient numbers for separate competitions a seeding system will apply. The organisers’ decisions are final!!

RACE ENTRANTS ARE ADVISED TO WALK THE COURSE BEFORE COMPETING

The woolsacks are all prefilled and weigh 200kg.

1. The race is a “team event” with each team consisting of no more than 8 participants but typically 4 or 6.
2. The first team to carry the wool sack around the loop is the winner.
3. The sack has to be carried throughout the route, it can be rested on the ground but it cannot be dragged along the ground!!
4. Each team is free to adopt its own strategy for carrying the sack over the course, they can use any combination of team members at any stage over the route, team members may be strategically placed anywhere along the route and there is no restriction on how far or how frequently any individual team member helps to carry the sack.
5. The sack can be dropped or placed on the floor to aid changeover of team members but it cannot be dragged along the floor at any stage.

A FIRST PRIZE WILL BE AWARDED FOR EACH CATEGORY AND ANNOUNCED ON THE DAY!
