This is the third Llandovery Sheep Festival - an event inspired by the workshops held by the Llandovery & District Chamber of Commerce (in conjunction with the then Collabor8 Project run by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority) and creation of the "Love Llandovery" Campaign in 2010; a campaign to create a unique identity for the town
The themes of Sheep and Wool are intertwined in our history and culture and this, together with the launch of the Wool Project earlier in 2010 by HRH the Prince of Wales, we hope will help towards boosting the economic sustainablity of our town and its surrounding area.
Our main sponsors are:
Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (Rural Alliances Project - see below)
Llandovery Town Council
Llandovery & District Chamber of Commerce
Cambrian Pet Foods (Pencader and Llangadog) - donation of 6 * 15kg dog food for the winners of the Sheep Dog Trials
Lloyds Bank - Sheep Dog trial Trophy
Annonymous - donation of the apGruffydd Trophy for the second sheep dog trial competition
Rural Alliances is a 10million transnational project, 50% funded by the ERDF Interreg IVB North West Europe Programme involving twelve different partners from Wales, Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
Rural Alliances will focus on three key themes:
o Bringing entrepreneurs and communities together through the creation of new alliance structures to form self-supporting, inclusive, confident rural communities.
o Benchmarking and measuring rural vibrancy through a transnationally agreed process.
o Forging new relationships between the public, private and community sectors to safeguard and enhance public services and rural resources
The partners involved in the Rural Alliances project are: Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (UK), Lead Partner; University of Wales, Trinity Saint David (UK); Boerenbondvereniging voor Projecten vzw (BE); Vlaamse Landmaatschappij (VLM) (BE); Stichting Streekhuis Het Groene Woud en De Meierij (NL); Stichting Streekhuis Kempenland (NL); Gemeente Lochem (NL); Philipps Universität Marburg (DE); South Kerry Development Partnership Ltd. The project contributes to a more cohesive EU society as it derives from a cooperation of people from different countries working on common issues that touch the lives of EU-citizens
