Aberdaron (the last Parish of the famous Welsh poet R.S.Thomas) is a stepping off point for the pilgrims visiting the sacred Island of Bardsey - or Ynys Enlli as its known in Welsh - where, according to legend, 20,000 saints are buried. In fact many Welsh Bishops did consign their bodies for burial here - provided they managed to survive the crossing of the tide-ripped strait once called the Bardsey Race.
