The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh

The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh hosts The Diehard Company!

The Museum tells the fascinating story of four of the British army’s most famous regiments. This long history, dating back to the 1680s, is told through many kinds of objects including uniforms, medals, weapons and models. The regiments have seen action in many prominent events, including the British campaign in South Africa (visit us and discover what really happened in the 1879 Zulu War!), and both world wars. Forty-three of the regiments’ soldiers have received the Victoria Cross, and we commemorate their sacrifice and heroism as well as that of all the men and women associated with our regiments who have contributed so much to our country.

News & Special Offers

The weekend of Friday 26th to Sunday 28th June 2015 will see Brecon’s Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh host one of Britain’s finest re-enactment groups, The Diehard Company!

The Diehards are joining us to re-create an army camp from the 1879 Zulu War. Authentic uniforms, equipment and weapons will be used to demonstrate the life of a soldier during this period. Visitors are going to be able to see original examples of the iconic Martini Henry rifle being fired, as well as participating in talks on the weapons used by Zulu Warriors. All are welcome, but there will be a special opportunity for children to join Queen Victoria’s army!

The Diehard’s camp is to be based on Brecon Rugby Club’s main pitch for the weekend and all events are free. Some of the demonstrations will also take place at the Museum, as the locations are only a few minutes’ walk from each other. Events are scheduled to begin at 11am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and continue at regular intervals throughout the day.
