Wyndcliffe Court Gardens are Grade II listed and designed in the Arts and Crafts style. Now opening to the public on a regular basis with free entry, they will showcase contemporary sculptures by local and well-known British artists. The collection will feature hundreds of sculptures in a wide variety of mediums, sizes and styles situated throughout the garden and offering the opportunity to view and purchase beautiful sculpture with an outstanding backdrop.
The Edwardian gardens feature sculpted topiary, a sunken garden, a summerhouse, walled gardens, fountains, a lily pond and a bowling lawn leading on to wooded walks. Designed by H. Avray Tipping, friend of Gertrude Jekyll and Editor of Country Life magazine, they were completed in 1922 and are probably the best example of their type in Wales.
Famous for its Alice in Wonderland-like, almost fantasy topiary, it attracted crowds of visitors when last open to the public in 2005 under the National Gardens Scheme. With the addition of a careful mix of well chosen sculptures placed around the garden, it will attract both gardening enthusiasts and art lovers alike.
Entrance to the gardens is free, though we invite donations to our chosen charity. All sculptures are for sale. There will be a cafe serving tea, coffee, cakes and light refreshments with indoor and outdoor seating on our terrace/loggia. There is free parking, and toilets. A sculpture guide will be available to collect at the entrance with a map of the gardens listing all of the sculptures and details of their positions and prices.
We are 5 minutes from Chepstow and Tintern Abbey, and 5 minutes from the M48 Bridge, 20 minutes from Newport, 30 minutes from Bristol and Cardiff, 40 from Gloucester and around 2 hours from London.
