Located just outside Newport, M4 J27, and following the A467 towards Risca, the Cefn flight of Fourteen Locks is served by a complicated system of ponds, channels and tunnels, and rises an impressive 168 feet in just half a mile.
The newly-refurbished Interpretation Centre shows visitors how commodities such as coal and iron were transported from the South Wales Valleys to the ports of Newport and Cardiff, and traces the growth and decline of the Canal since its opening in 1796. The centre now has a meeting room, and the Dadford Tea Room offers snacks, drinks and home-made cakes between 10am and 4pm daily.
Guided walks take place on the first Saturday of each month.
