Newport Transporter Bridge

Built in 1906, the Newport Transporter Bridge has stood for over a 100 years as a symbol of the industrial heritage of the City and wider area. Standing majestically over the River Usk, the bridge can be seen clearly from most parts of Newport.

Scale the bridge for a majestic walk over this landmark of the industrial revolution, or simply take a cheap ride via car, bike or on foot on the gondola over the river.

Location: West side, Usk Way (including Visitor Centre)………NP20 2JG
East side, Stephenson Street…………………………NP19 0RB
Eastbound M4, leave at Junction 28, westbound M4, leave at Junction 24, and follow the Southern Distributor Route, A48
Parking: In Mill Parade, off Usk Way, opposite the Bridge
Bus service: No 40 from Central Bus Station

The visitor centre is situated on the Western side of the bridge, just off Usk Way, and is open from 10am to 4pm, daily, staffed by volunteers and supporters of the Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge.

It provides an interpretation of the bridge's history, information on the key figures in its construction and illustrations of other transporter bridges from around the world. An audio-visual presentation and interactive model complete the story, with a number of souvenirs and publications available for purchase as a momento of your visit.
