As the oldest stone Castle in the UK and with the oldest Castle Doors in Europe, Chepstow Castle knows a thing about longevity. You can feel the history in this fortress, which snakes its way along the cliffs of the River Wye, towering over the town.
From around 1067 through to 1690, the castle, almost chameleon-like, changed its appearance as fashions changed in military architecture. More a case of bright architects than bright colours however, and all of this is open for you to explore.
Access problems for visitors with mobility difficulties are also a thing of the past thanks to improvements leading to the main entrance and our resident mobility scooter.
