Wernog Wood Craft Courses

We offer an array of traditional and contemporary craft courses, instructed by practicing artists and crafts people. Courses are tailored for beginners as well as those with experience. Ranging from single day to week-long courses, you will learn your new skill within our charming woodland workshop, or at the jewellers bench. There are options for one to one tuition, small groups, or larger groups of up to eight people.

'The chair making course was a complete detox from a life over-burdened with electronics and mechanical tricks that ‘save’ us the bother, and true joy of hand crafting something as simple as a chair. There are easier and cheaper ways of adding a chair to the household inventory but most definitely none so satisfying'.

ABOUT WERNOG WOOD

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Wernog Wood is a hidden gem, right in the heart of the Clwydian Range, north east Wales. Our beautiful oak and ash woods are teaming with birds and wildlife, bluebells and wild garlic and an invigorating stream. Just 200m from Offa’s Dyke and footpaths in every direction, you can enjoy evening walks in the heather covered hills, down into Ruthin, or along Offa’s Dyke itself to a variety of rural pubs.

ACCOMMODATION

Students staying for more than one day can pitch their tent in Wernog wildflower meadow and soak up the alfresco evening ambience. Camping is £8 per night per person. A nice hot shower is also available.

We are soon to complete a cosy 'red shed' which is full of character and will be available to rent.... so watch this space. Depending on relevant permissions, we also hope our visitors will be able to stay in quirky woodland cabins.

FOOD

During courses, we provide a simple honest lunch such as bread, cheese and soup, however evening feasts are down to the students themselves. With use of a spacious and well equipped kitchen and living space, or a woodfired pizza oven, fire pit and fresh spring water, the formula for evening meals is to team up ‘chefs’, two at a time to cook for the rest of the group…. the bar is raised night after night and the food just gets better and better.

'One thing I will very fondly remember is sitting underneath the tarpaulin tent, eating amazing plentiful lunches cooked by Claire and Rob and chatting with the friendly group that had been brought together by this course, a very memorable week that will not be forgotten.'
