Gwent Adventures Water Sports and Activity Centre is based at Llandegfedd Reservoir spanning the borders of the counties of Monmouthshire and Torfaen, i.e. the former county of Gwent.
We offer courses in dinghy sailing, windsurfing , kayaking and open canoeing. Courses are arranged for individuals,groups, scouts, guides, school groups, corporate bodies,
family groups, birthday parties, stag & hen parties, rugby & football clubs etc.

R.Y.A. Sailing Courses

Sailing is a fantastic and diverse sport, with activities to suit everyone. The RYA National Sailing Scheme has been designed to help you enjoy whichever aspect of the sport that appeals to you. All the courses in the Scheme can be taken in a dinghy, keelboat or multihull so you can have tuition in whatever type of boat you wish. Good Sailing!

Start Sailing Level 1 – getting afloat
An introduction to the sport, covering the minimum knowledge required to get afloat under supervision.

Basic Skills Level 2 – the foundations of the sport
Becoming a competent sailor in light winds
Completion of this course is the basis from which to develop your sailing.

Seamanship Skills – sail independently
How to handle a boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat.

Day Sailing – go cruising (not currently offered by Gwent Adventures)
Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising

Sailing with Spinnakers – kites course
Everything you need to know to sail modern three-sail boats

Start Racing – go club racing (not currently offered by Gwent Adventures)
The start line for enjoying club racing. All you need to know to get round the course

Performance Sailing – get coached and sail better (not currently offered by Gwent Adventures)
Improve your boat handling and confidence in performance boats.


Private Tuition
In addition to the above courses, private lessons are available.

R.Y.A. Windsurfing Courses(2009)

Introductory Course: This is a very basic introduction to the sport of windsurfing and does not form part of the R.Y.A. National Windsurfing Scheme. At the end of the session pupils would have been introduced to the very basics of windsurfing and would have enjoyed the experience of standing on a board and moving across the water.

This is a three hour session normally run on Saturday mornings although it can be arranged at other times to meet the needs of small groups of three or more participants.

The cost of this course is £55 per person. There is no reduction for juniors.

* Introductory Course Fee does not include R.Y.A. handbook or logbook.

Level 1 - Learn to Windsurf: This is the first course in the R.Y.A. National Windsurfing Scheme. There are no prerequisites other than a degree of water confidence. Instruction will include an introduction to the equipment, practice of the skills on a land simulator, practice afloat followed by an assessment for the level 1 certificate.

This is a two day course that is usually run on most weekends throughout the season, although it can be arranged at other times to meet the needs of small groups of three or more participants.

The cost of the course is £155 per Adult, £125 per Junior (16yrs or under).

Family Group of four, Adults & Juniors mixed £490.00
Group of six adults or adults and juniors mixed £740.00
Prices include RYA logbook & certificate.

Level 2 - Improving Techniques: The aim of level 2 is to simply brush up on the techniques that will make launching slicker, the turns faster and to slip you into a harness and adapt your stance to cope with more power. The course will end with an assessment for the level 2 certificate.

This is a two day course that is usually run on weekends throughout the season, although it can be arranged at other times to meet the needs of small groups of three or more participants.

The cost of the course is £155 per Adult, £125 per Junior (16yrs or under).

School Holidays.
From 6th July until the end of August we will be running Junior Activity Days for 8 - 16 year olds.
Activities will include Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing, Kayaking, Open Canoeing and Rafting.
