A warm welcome, every facility for comfort, a quiet yet central location in lovely Monmouthshire, this quality detached barn conversion, close to the farmhouse on a traditional pasture farm, is the perfect place for a family holiday. Whether you are looking for a place to relax or a base from which to explore the many attractions of the Forest of Dean and South Wales, Becher's Cottage is ideal for you.
Down a country lane with tall hedges and old oak trees, Becher's Cottage is situated amid the rolling Welsh hills. There are 100 acres on the farm where sheep, cattle and horses graze. A gentle stroll around the farm or the more strenuous Three Castles Walk, the choice is yours, with a comfortable cosy cottage to return to.
From a private, paved patio the front door opens to a spacious hallway with feature staircase, then 2 steps down to an open plan living/dining area with Freeview TV, DVD, CD, HiFi, games, books, all provided. Free WiFi is also available. Central heating is supplemented by an electric "woodburner" fire for colder evenings.
The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and dining in style - with a fridge and separate freezer, plenty of pans, crockery, utensils, etc. with oven, grill and ceramic hob, microwave and toaster, and a dishwasher - all of which are in working order and tested before each arrival.
Upstairs, there are two bedrooms (one double, one twin) with en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms are modern, one with a bathtub and one with a shower, and all bedlinen and towels and basic toiletries are provided. Beds will, of course, be made up for your arrival with different weight duvets depending on season and plenty of pillows.
There is ample parking next to the cottage and you will find plenty of information to hand about all the delights of Monmouthshire. Your hosts are there to welcome you and provide advice, directions and recommendations. Your dog can come for no extra charge if you ask us first and, as well as a secure fenced garden area, can have a large safe field to run free. Monmouthshire has become a county of fine food, with good restaurants, weekly markets, and specialist food producers. You can enjoy fast food, gastro pubs or Michelin starred dining or purchase lovely fresh food to cook in the modern, fully equipped kitchen.
Walking, cycling, canoeing, horseriding, fishing and golf are all available nearby. Chepstow racecourse is less than an hour away. The beautiful lower Wye valley and Tintern Abbey are a few minutes away, across the river from Monmouth. Cardiff Bay and Dr Who, Celtic Manor 2010 Ryder Cup golf course and other lovely courses, Hereford Cathedral with its Mappa Mundi - all are easy to reach. The Royal Forest of Dean boasts caves, arts and crafts, sculptures and mazes, puzzles and butterflies, steam railways, tea rooms and old-world pubs to visit. At the end of the day, you can watch the sun set on Skirrid Fawr in the Black Mountains from the cottage patio or wander the farm and talk to the horses, watch the bats, and enjoy one of the last truly quiet places in the UK.
