Enjoying fantastic views across the Menai Straits and Snowdonia, Arlanfor is perfect for holidays throughout the year. Literally translated from the Welsh, Arlanfor means ‘on land and sea’ or perhaps ‘on the beach’, perfectly describing Arlanfor. With a stunning location on the banks of the Menai Strait on Anglesey, Arlanfor stands with only the coast road and the sea wall separating it from the beach.

Plenty for children to enjoy! From the cottage, you can stroll along the Menai Strait, take a walk down the old pier (tide permitting), and enjoy hunting for crabs or fishing for something a little bigger! As well as the proximity to the pebble beach and sea. Arlanfor is only a short walk from two of Anglesey’s main attractions, Anglesey Sea Zoo and Foel Farm Park and Chocolate Shop. Tal y Foel Riding Centre is only a short drive away too. Arlanfor provides excellent family holiday accommodation.

Arlanfor, which sleeps four, is the smallest of the three Foel Ferry Cottages. It is thought that at one time these cottages may have been connected with the jetty in the Strait from which a ferry service went to and from Caernarfon. The cottages have recently been refurbished and updated for use as holiday cottages.

Ground floor

Arlanfor is a single-storey property with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area.

Kitchen/ dining area/ lounge

The modern fully fitted kitchen has a large oven with ceramic hob, a fridge with freezer compartment, a kettle, toaster and microwave. A washing machine and central heating boiler are located in the porch by the front door door. The kitchen window provides wonderful views of the Strait towards Caernarfon Castle to the south and Y Felinheli (Port Dinorwic) to the north. There is a table with chairs for four, adjacent to the kitchen, within the lounge.

There are two very comfortable two-seater sofas, a modern wall-mounted 32in LCD TV with Freeview. A large bookcase holds lots of books to read and board games. The view from the lounge window is directly across the Menai Strait with Mount Snowdon (Eryri) immediately opposite.

Bedroom 1

This spacious double bedroom has plenty of storage in the form of a large chest of drawers and a wardrobe. There are bedside tables and lamps. The windows provide a good view out to the Menai Strait and the mountains beyond.

Bedroom 2

Two single beds, two bedside cabinets and a large wardrobe. The window looks out on to the Foel Ferry courtyard.

Bathroom

There is an attractively tiled bathroom with a full size bath with an electric shower over the bath complete with glass screen, washbasin and toilet.

Entertainment

The lounge has a 32 inch LCD TV with built in Freeview, books & games on the bookshelf and wireless internet.

Outside

Arlanfor shares a garden with the two other Foel Ferry Cottages. On a paved area next to Arlanfor are garden chairs and a table with fabulous views overlooking the Straits. A perfect spot for an early morning coffee watching the sunrise over Mount Snowdon or watching boats sail up and down the Menai straits and soaking up the glorious views! Great spot for avid bird watchers too, with plenty of activity on the waterfront.

West coast beaches

Newborough Forest (off the A4080) leads to Llanddwyn Island through a wonderful avenue of Corsican pines, look out for the red squirrels, and fine golden sand to a mystical island steeped in ancient folklore. Malltraeth has a fine estuary famous for its waterfowl and Aberffraw was once the seat of Welsh princes. Rhosneigr is a famous water sport resort with a mouth-watering array of cafes and bistros.

Snowdonia

Across the Menai Strait are the mountains of Snowdonia which offer great opportunities for climbers, walkers, fell runners, mountain-bikers and naturalists. Llanberis is at the heart of Snowdonia: it is from here that the Snowdon Mountain Railway takes passengers to the new visitor centre at the summit.

Menai Bridge

Arlanfor is only a short distance away from Menai Bridge, a small town dominated by Thomas Telford’s magnificent suspension bridge. It is very worthwhile to walk over the bridge and enjoy the views of the Strait. There are also some very attractive walks through woodland to the water’s edge and a number of pubs and restaurants in the town.

Beaumaris

Beyond Menai Bridge, Beaumaris has some beautiful Georgian houses and a splendid medieval castle built by Edward I in response to Welsh unrest. There are interesting shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes with opportunities for golf, sea-fishing and taking cruises along the Strait from the pier. Beaumaris has a series of festivals throughout the year.

East coast beaches

The East Coast of Anglesey offers a number of extensive golden beaches all along the A5025 such as Llanddona (quiet and remote), Red Wharf Bay, home to the famous Ship Inn which has a beer garden with a view to die for! Benllech’s sandy beach, one of Anglesey’s most popular holiday resorts is great for swimming, windsurfing and sea-fishing. Traeth Bychan an east facing, sheltered beach popular with walkers along the Anglesey Coastal Path. Moelfre (famous for its lifeboat legacy) and Traeth Lligwy, a great family beach with shallow shelving making the sea perfect for children to paddle in!
