Cadarn Bed and Breakfast

Situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park and originally a small welsh hill farm, the Cadarn bunkhouse is surrounded by its own land with fabulous views of the Black Mountains and the Wye Valley.

A warm wellcome is assured for those wanting to stay at our Visit Wales 4* graded farmhouse. We have four rooms, mostly ensuite and can accommodate up to 12 guests at a time.

You don't have to be horse mad to stay with us, there are plenty of wonderful walks and mountain bike routes from our doorstep.

Be treated to a real local breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausages all coming from local farms.

Outstanding views of the Brecon Beacons are easily accessed by foot or bike. These routes are not heavily used so you probably won't come across another walker or mountain biker for miles.

The Accommodation is only 4 miles from Hay on Wye, famous for the Sky Literature Festival held in May each year. The market town of Brecon famous for its annual Jazz festival in August is only 10 miles.

Talgarth is only 5 miles and has a gliding club where you can book gliding lessons.

Nearest Public Transport

Unfortunately, we are not well served with public transport links.

Nearest railway stations are Abergavenny and Hereford, both about 25 miles. From Abergavenny the best option is taxi. From Hereford, there is the option of catching the bus towards Brecon, Stagecoach No 39. Get off at Three Cocks (Old Barn Inn stop) and exercise your legs!

There are also National Express coaches to Hereford or Brecon. For small groups, we can pick up from Hay-on-Wye and the bus/railway stations by prior arrangement.

Local Interests/Attractions

Cadarn enjoys a quiet peaceful location, perfect for just chilling out, and yet is only half a mile away from the village of Felindre with its friendly local pub, which serves good pub food.

Hay-on-Wye is a pretty border town, famous for its second-hand bookshops and world-renowned literary festival. Good cafes and pubs/ restaurants. Small supermarket.

Brecon is a small market town, host to an excellent jazz festival, nearest cinema, good theatre and nearest leisure centre. Farmers market and larger supermarket.

We are well situated for a variety of outdoor activities; some of the best horse riding country in Britain is on our doorstep. We can cater for riders and novices, and have a choice of rides from an hour to a full day ride with a stop at a pub for lunch. We are licensed by Powys County Council, approved by the British Horse Society, the Wales Trekking and Riding Association, the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority and Visit Wales.

You can walk straight out on to the open commons and mountains from the bunkhouse over a private track.

This an excellent mountain biking area with a wide range of trails/routes from easy on-road routes, using quiet lanes, to full day, over the mountains rides. Bike hire can be arranged locally and delivered to the bunkhouse for you.

The River Wye is easily accessible for kayaking and canoeing, with several canoe hire operators in the area. There are also multi-activity providers based in Glasbury and Hay-on-Wye.
