Located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, within walking distance of beautiful Crickhowell town and with stunning views of the Black Mountains (including the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain), Merryfields Barn is a quality conversion built to high specifications by local craftsmen.

The property overlooks an orchard and lawn. At the rear, there's a large, private patio area with a barbecue and an enclosed paddock with a small stream. The River Usk and charming towns of Llangattock and Crickhowell are less than a mile.

Accommodation Summary

Completed in 2009, the property has oak beams, doors and floors upstairs and limestone floors with under-floor heating throughout downstairs. All rooms, including both bedrooms (one with a king size bed, the other with two single beds), boast lovely views of the surrounding area. There's a Japanese square bath and a modern, walk-in shower/wet room. The oak kitchen is fully equipped and the utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Accommodation

Merryfields Barn has a modern, cosy feel throughout. Built to a high standard, the property has an efficient, modern boiler, thick insulation and under-floor heating to ensure you’ll never be cold and, in warm weather, there are two sets of oak French doors which can be opened onto paved patio areas; one has fabulous mountain views over the orchard and the other is completely private, with garden furniture and a barbecue area.

Upstairs:
- Two bedrooms (one king size, one with 2 single beds) with oak beams and floors, radiators and bedroom furniture. Bed linen/towels are provided.
- Bathroom with Japanese square bath, toilet, wash basin, towel radiator and shaver point.
- Landing with built-in hanging space and shelving.

Downstairs:
- Under-floor heating throughout.
- Walk-in shower room, toilet & wash basin.
- Fully-equipped modern oak kitchen with fridge, electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave etc.
- Utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer.
- Dining area with ash furniture. French doors opening onto raised sitting-out area.
- Sitting room with sofa, arm chairs, TV/DVD and hi-fi with iPod dock. French doors opening onto large, private area with garden furniture, barbecue.
- On-site parking. Large grounds. Paddock with stream.
- Wi-Fi internet access.

Outside:
Merryfields Barn overlooks a lawned area with fruit trees, raspberries, daffodils and shrubs. There is a sandstone patio area where you can enjoy a coffee or glass of wine whilst admiring the stunning views of the Black Mountains and Usk Valley. At the rear of the property, oak French doors open onto a large, private patio area which has a barbecue and garden furniture. There is also a large, enclosed paddock with a small stream and, adjacent to the property, a parking area for three cars.

Local Area

Merryfields Barn is set in a small hamlet of about 20 houses called Ffawyddog, which means 'beech grove'. The village of Llangattock ("greenest village in UK") stands at the foot of the hill and the charming and thriving market town of Crickhowell is just a mile away. Numerous attractions and sights of interest are located within the surrounding area.

The Monmouthshire and Brecon canal is ¼ mile down the road, with its newly-refurbished paths, narrow boats, kingfishers, bluebells and even a large redwood tree. The River Usk is also within walking distance, attracting fishermen and canoeists throughout the year. The local area is also a haven for birdwatchers, with buzzards and red kites regularly flying over the property. Other local activities include a 9-hole golf course just down the road, an excellent climbing centre and boating lake at Llangorse, gliding, hang gliding and paragliding, extensive mountain biking, several horse riding centres, some of the best caving in the UK and, above all, excellent walking country.

- Big Pit mining museum at Blaenavon
- Hay-on-Wye, famous for the Hay Festival of Literature and its many second hand bookshops
- Brecon Mountain Railway at Pontsticill
Castles at Raglan, Grosmont and Skenfrith
- Pen-y-fan (highest mountain in South Wales at 886 metres)
- Gliding, hang gliding and paragliding
- Extensive mountain biking routes including the famous Cwmcarn Trail
- Tretower Court and castle
- Horse riding centres and wonderful walking country throughout the area.

Rates and Special offers

Weekly lets are available throughout the year and the property is also available for short breaks, subject to availability.

Prices for renting the property vary from £80 per night to between £280 and £760 for a full week.

Normal changeover day is Friday. Please contact the owners, Steve and Angela Sharp, for current rates, availability and special offers. We will endeavour to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.

For lets of a week or more, a deposit of 25% is payable once the booking has been confirmed and the balance is payable 8 weeks before the holiday start date. For short breaks, payment is required in full once the booking has been confirmed. Payments can be made by cheque, cash or bank transfer in pounds sterling or euros.
